P., USMC Marine Lance Cpl. Jeriad P. Jacobs, 19, of Clayton, N.C.; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; killed Jan. 7 by enemy small-arms fire while conducting combat operations near Fallujah, Iraq.

W. Jr., USA Army Capt. William W. Jacobsen Jr., 31, of Charlotte, N.C.; assigned to 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Wash.; killed Dec. 21 when his base dining facility was attacked in Mosul, Iraq.
Jewell, Steven R., USA Army Spc. Steven R. Jewell, 26, of
Bridgeton, N.C.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 52nd Aviation Regiment,
Task Force 49, Fort Wainwright, Alaska; died Aug. 14 in Taqaddum, Iraq,
of injuries suffered when his helicopter crashed. Also killed were Chief
Warrant Officer Christopher C. Johnson, Chief Warrant Officer Jackie L.
McFarlane, Staff Sgt. Sean P. Fisher and Staff Sgt. Stanley B. Reynolds. Johnson, Courtney
T., USA Army Sgt. Courtney T. Johnson, 26, of
Garner, N.C.; assigned to the 3rd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 3rd
Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Benning, Ga.; died July
11 in Besmaya, Iraq, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his
unit with indirect fire. Johnson,
Robert T., USA Army Spc. Robert T. Johnson, 20, of Erwin, N.C.; assigned to the 805th Military Police Company, Army Reserve, Raleigh, N.C.; killed Jan. 7 when his Humvee was hit by a civilian vehicle in Umm Qasr, Iraq. Also killed was Sgt. Nathan R. Field.

C., USA Army Pfc. William C. Johnson, 22, of Oxford, N.C.; assigned to 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.; died June 12 in Baghdad of wounds sustained from an improvised explosive device.
Jones, Kevin M.,
USA Army Spc. Kevin M. Jones, 21, of Washington, N.C.; assigned to the 181st Transportation Battalion, 7th Corps Support Group, 3rd Corps Support Command, Mannheim, Germany; killed Sept. 22 when an improvised explosive device detonated by his vehicle near Taqaddum, Iraq.

USA Army Pfc. Richard K. Jones, 21, of Roxboro, N.C.; assigned to 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.; died Aug. 1 in Mushan village, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his patrol with improvised explosive devices and rocket-propelled grenades. Also killed were Army Cpl. Jonathan M. Walls and Army Pvt. Patrick S. Fitzgibbon.
Kinzer,
William S. Jr., USA Army Sgt. William S. Kinzer Jr., 27, of Hendersonville, N.C.; assigned to the 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany; killed Jan. 26 when a rocket-propelled grenade hit his patrol in Duluiyah, Iraq.
Kirk, Johnathan
E., USMC Marine Lance Cpl. Johnathan E. Kirk, 25, of Belhaven, N.C.; assigned to 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; died May 1 from wounds received while conducting combat operations on April 23 in Al Anbar province, Iraq.
Kramer, Edward C., USA Sgt. 1st Class Edward C. Kramer, 39, of Wilmington, N.C.; assigned to the 120th Combined Arms Battalion, Wilmington, N.C.; died from wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle June 29, in Baghdad, Iraq. Also died from the same incident were Sgt. Roger L. Adams Jr., Sgt. Juan C. Baldeosingh, and Spc. Robert L. Bittike, all from North Carolina.
Krause, Elmer
C., USA Army Sgt. Elmer C. Krause, 40, of Greensboro, N.C.; assigned to 724th Transportation Company, Army Reserve, Bartonville, Ill.; unaccounted for in Iraq since April 9, when his convoy came under attack by individuals using rocket-propelled grenades and small-arms fire, his remains were recovered April 23.
Lam, Alan Dinh,
USMC Marine Lance Cpl. Alan Dinh Lam, 19, of Snow Camp, N.C; assigned to the 8th Communication Battalion, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; killed in a non-hostile accident when a rocket-propelled grenade launcher being fired for familiarization malfunctioned near Kut, Iraq. The incident is under investigation.
Lambert, James
I. III, USA Army Spc. James I. Lambert III, 22, of Raleigh, N.C.; assigned to the 407th Combat Support Battalion, Fort Bragg, N.C.; killed by a stray bullet fired during what was believed to be a celebratory event by local nationals July 31 in Baghdad.
Libby, George V. USA Army Spc. George V. Libby, 23, of Aberdeen, N.C., died Aug. 20 near Khowst, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered from a non-combat-related incident. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Lewis, Washington
Linder, Darryl
W., USA Army Cpl. Darryl W. Linder, 23, of Hickory, N.C.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; died June 19 in Baqubah, Iraq, of wounds sustained from an improvised explosive device.
Lucas, Kevin
Adam, USMC Marine Lance Cpl. Kevin A. Lucas, 20, of Greensboro, N.C.; assigned to 3rd Battalion, 8th Marines, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; killed May 26 while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Anbar province, Iraq.

Aug. 2 in Qole Gerdsar, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when insurgents
attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device. Also killed
were Sgt. 1st Class Alejandro Granado and Sgt. 1st Class Severin W.
