Marion, Adam L., USA Army Pfc. Adam L. Marion, 26, of
Mount Airy, N.C.; assigned to the 171st Engineer Company, North
Carolina Army National Guard, Saint Pauls, N.C.; died April 28 in
Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his
forward operating base with indirect fire. Also killed were Sgt.
Marcus C. Mathes and Sgt. Mark A. Stone. Martinez,
Misael, USA Army Staff Sgt. Misael Martinez, 24, of Chapel Hill, N.C.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 16th Engineer Battalion, 1st Brigade, 1st Armored Division, Giessen, Germany; died Nov. 11 of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle during combat operations in Ramadi, Iraq. Also killed were: Staff Sgt. William S. Jackson II and Sgt. Angel De Jesus Lucio Ramirez.

Montrel S., USA Army Spc. Montrel S. Mcarn, 21, of Raeford, N.C.; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; died Feb. 19 in Baghdad of wounds suffered when his unit came under attack by enemy forces using multiple weapons. Also killed was Sgt. Pedro J. Colon.
McDowell, Mark R.,
USAF Capt. Mark R. McDowell, 26, of Colorado Springs, Colo. (a native of Charlotte, NC); assigned to the 336th Fighter Squadron, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, N.C.; died July 17 in an F-15E crash near Ghazni Province, Afghanistan. Also killed was Capt. Thomas J. Gramith.
Miller,
Marvin Lee, USA Army Sgt. 1st Class Marvin L. Miller, 38, of Dunn, N.C.; assigned to the 1st Squadron, 4th U.S. Cavalry, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany; died April 7 of a gunshot wound he received while on traffic-control duty in Balad, Iraq.
Mitchell, David S.,
USMC Marine Capt. David S. Mitchell, 30,
of Loveland, Ohio; assigned to Marine Light Attack Helicopter
Squadron 367, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, I
Marine Expeditionary Force, based out of Camp Pendleton, Calif.;
died Oct. 26 in a collision between a UH-1 and an AH-1 helicopter in
Helmand province, Afghanistan. Also killed were Cpl. Gregory M.W. Fleury, Capt. Eric A. Jones and Capt. Kyle R. Van De Giesen.

William C., USA Army Staff Sgt. William C. Moore, 27, of Benson, N.C.; assigned to the 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.; died April 23 in Sadah, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his location. Also killed were 1st Lt. Kevin J. Gaspers, Staff Sgt. Kenneth E. Locker Jr., Sgt. Randell T. Marshall, Sgt. Brice A. Pearson, Sgt. Michael L. Vaughan, Spc. Jerry R. King, Spc. Michael J. Rodriguez and Pfc. Garrett C. Knoll.
Morley, Joshua L., USA Army
Sgt. Joshua L. Morley, 22, of Boise, Idaho; assigned to the 2nd
Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat
Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.; died Aug. 26 in
Samarra, Iraq, of wounds suffered when the enemy attacked his unit
during combat operations. Also killed was Spc. Tracy C. Willis.
Murdock, Michael W., USA Army Pvt. Michael W. Murdock, 22, of Chocowinity, N.C.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 6th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; died Sept. 11 at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained at Combat Outpost Lybert, Afghanistan, when he was struck by enemy fire.
Murphy, Shawn
M., USA Army Pfc. Shawn M. Murphy, 24, of Fort Bragg, N.C.; assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 509th Infantry (Airborne), 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Richardson, Alaska; died Dec. 10 of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee in Baghdad. Also killed was Sgt. Brennan C. Gibson and Spc. Philip C. Ford.

Rodney A., USA Army Sgt. Rodney A. Murray, 28, of Ayden, N.C.; assigned to the 351st Military Police Company, Army Reserve, Ocala, Fla.; killed May 9 when a Bradley Fighting Vehicle and his military vehicle collided between Baghdad and Scania, Iraq.
Newton, Alan H.,
USA Army Pfc. Alan H. Newton Jr., 26, of Asheboro, N.C.; assigned to the 422nd Civil Affairs Battalion, U.S. Army Reserve, Greensboro, N.C.; died Oct. 2 in Murcheh, Afghanistan, from wounds sustained when he was attacked by a suicide bomber. Also killed was Capt. Benjamin A. Sklaver.

Youngsville, N.C., died Feb. 23 in Fallujah, Iraq, of injuries
sustained during a vehicle roll-over. He was assigned to the 307th
Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne
Division, Fort Bragg, N.C. Parr, David
S., USMC Marine Lance Cpl. David S. Parr, 22, of Benson, N.C.; assigned to Battalion Landing Team, 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; killed Feb. 6 by an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations in Hit, Iraq.
Parson, David B., USA Army Sgt. David B. Parson, 30, Kannapolis, N.C.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 37th Armored Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Friedburg, Germany; shot and killed while conducting a raid on a house in Baghdad July 6.
Parsons, Jason R., USA Army Cpl. Jason R. Parsons, 24, of Lenoir, N.C.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, Hohenfels, Germany; died Jan. 9 in Jaldak, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Also killed were Maj. Brian M. Mescall and Spc. Joseph M. Hernandez.

Christopher T., USMC Marine Capt. Christopher T. Pate, 29, of Hampstead, N.C.; assigned to the 2nd Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, Command Element, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; killed July 21 while conducting combat operations in Anbar province, Iraq.

Emanuel, USA Staff Sgt. Emanuel Pickett, 34, of Teachey, N.C.; assigned to the 1132nd Military Police Company, North Carolina Army National Guard, Rocky Mount, N.C.; died April 6 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked with indirect fire.
Pier, Noah M., USMC Marine Lance Cpl. Noah M. Pier, 25, of Charlotte, N.C.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii; died Feb. 16 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.
Poche, Devin C., USA Sgt. Devin C. Poche, 25, of Jacksonville, N.C.,
died Mar. 31 at Contingency Operating Base Speicher, near Tikrit,
Iraq, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident. He
was assigned to the Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 25th
Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
