N.C.; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 503d
Ray, Thomas C. II, USA Army Sgt. Thomas C. Ray, II, 40, of
Weaverville, N.C.; died March 22 in Baghdad, Iraq, from wounds suffered
when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device. He were
assigned to the 1132nd Military Police Company, North Carolina Army
National Guard, Rocky Mount, N.C. Also killed were Sgt. David B.
Williams and Spc. David S. Stelmat. Rode, John D.,
USA Army Sgt. John D. Rode, 24, of Pineville, N.C.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; died Feb. 14 in Baqubah, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Also killed were Spc. Ronnie G. Madore Jr. and Sgt. Carl L. Seigart.

Michael J., USA Army Spc. Michael J. Rodriguez, 20, of Sanford, N.C.; assigned to the 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.; died April 23 in Sadah, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his location. Also killed were Spc. Jerry R. King, Sgt. Michael L. Vaughan, Sgt. Brice A. Pearson, Sgt. Randell T. Marshall, 1st Lt. Kevin J. Gaspers, Staff Sgt. Kenneth E. Locker Jr., Staff Sgt. William C. Moore and Pfc. Garrett C. Knoll.
Russell, Ryan
D., USA Army Spc. Ryan D. Russell, 20, of Elm City, N.C.; assigned to the 1st Squadron, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; died March 5 in Baqubah, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his unit. Also killed were Spc. Blake Harris and Pvt. Barry W. Mayo.

D., USMC Marine Lance Cpl. Andrew D. Russoli, 21, of Greensboro, N.C.; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; killed Oct. 20 by an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations against enemy forces near Nasser Wa Salaam, Iraq. Also killed were Staff Sgt. Richard T. Pummill and Lance Cpl. Steven W. Szwydek.

Ruth, 26, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Benning, Ga.; killed Aug. 31 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle during security patrol operations in Samarra, Iraq.
Sanchez, Enrique
Henry, USMC Marine Pfc. Enrique C. Sanchez, 21, of Garner, N.C.; assigned to 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; killed July 27 while conducting combat operations in Ramadi, Iraq.
Simmons, Leonard
D., USA Army Sgt. Leonard D. Simmons, 33, of New Bern, N.C.; assigned to C Company, 3rd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.; died Aug. 6 of a non-combat-related cause in Mosul, Iraq.

Springle, 52, of Wilmington, N.C.; assigned as an Individual Augmentee to the Army's 55th Medical Company; died May 11 from injuries sustained in a shooting by a U.S. soldier at Camp Liberty, Iraq. Also killed were Army Spc. Jacob D. Barton, Army Sgt. Christian E. Bueno-Galdos, Army Maj. Matthew P. Houseal and Army Pfc. Michael E. Yates Jr.
